We are expanding the museum by adding a much needed addition of an indoor gathering space: the Exhibition Space and Education Center. We are raising funds and need your help!
The Knight Foundation has offered Dabl's MBAD African Bead Museum (DMABM) a $100,000 matching grant. That means that whatever we raise, the Knight Foundation will match, up to $100,000. That means that every dollar you give, the Knight Foundation gives.
Currently, the Bead Gallery and Sculpture Garden bring thousands of people from all over the world every year. Every day, the guestbook is filled by artists, writers, musicians, mothers, and fathers. People from the neighborhood, Wesley Snipes, Quentin Tarantino, just to name a few.
Every week, groups of students come through and are filled with a sense of wonder, and more importantly, they leave with ideas about what we all have in common, how our differences are what bring us together. Dabls' MBAD African Bead Museum (DMABM) proposes that we will grow together as a community by having a safe space to talk about the uncomfortable issues that permeate our society. Race, culture, and ethnicity are stories that we live in and tell ourselves, and the future of our city depends on recognizing the power of the stories.
